March 9

HALIFAX PUTS ITS MARK "ON THE MAP" AS CBC RADIO'S GLOBAL VILLAGE CROSS-COUNTRY TOUR COMES TO TOWN WITH AN ECLECTIC FUND-RAISING CONCERT FEATURING MIR, LENNIE GALLANT, EL VIENTO FLAMENCO AND OTHERS AT THE REBECCA COHN AUDITORIUM, MARCH 9 AT 8:00 PM

It will be a concert like no other, and a chance for Halifax to strut its stuff to the country! CBC Radio's GLOBAL VILLAGE teams up with CBC Halifax's MAINSTREET and Halifax-based progressive pop group MIR to present the "On the Map" tour with hosts Jowi Taylor and Carmen Klassen, March 9 at 8:00 pm at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.

"On the Map" is a special series that pairs GLOBAL VILLAGE with CBC Radio local afternoon shows and provides a snapshot of the worlds contained in the local communities. Built around a live music event, "On the Map" asks the question: What's on your map of your city? Through music, song, dance, culture & heritage experts, historians, live audiences & online audiences who offer audio postcards, listeners across the country are able to envision a picture of local communities.

At the March 9 concert event, MIR is joined on stage at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium by Lennie Gallant, El Viento Flamenco (Spanish Flamenco music and dance), Nick Van Eede (from Cutting Crew), Alex Atiol (Sudanese music), Saeed Forougi (Persian music), and Jill Barber (folk), in a fund-raising concert that will paint a picture of the Halifax scene. Tickets for the concert are $15.00/$10.00 for students. All proceeds to the Centre for Diverse Visible Cultures.

Excerpts of the concert will be heard on CBC Radio's MAINSTREET in the days following the concert event, and on GLOBAL VILLAGE specials throughout this summer.

MAINSTREET can be heard weekdays 4:00-6:00 pm on CBC Radio One. GLOBAL VILLAGE can be heard Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC Radio One and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. (8:00 NT) on CBC Radio Two

Tickets are available at the Dalhousie Arts Centre box office: 902-494-3820.
